THE GREAT TRAGEDY OF 9-10
Isaiah 59:1-15

Everyone in this room knows what happened on 9-11. Everyone in this room will no doubt remember 9-11 for the rest of their life. It was one of the greatest tragedies our nation has ever seen. 3,031 people died in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania, We shed many tears that day. We remained outraged for weeks and months. We fought back with a vengeance. We set about to protect ourselves from future attacks. It was truly a horrible, tragic day in America.

BUT …
The day before on 9-10, 4,000 Americans lost their lives.
Hardly a tear was shed. Very few were outraged. The fight has lost its vengeance. Protection from future attacks is weak.

On 9-11 Muslims were the enemies.
On 9-10 Abortionist were the enemies.

January 22, 1993 is the 30th Anniversary of the Roe Vs. Wade decision made by the Supreme Court.
Since that day - 40,000,000 Americans have been murdered.

When the American Medical Association was formed in 1847 abortion was commonly practiced "before quickening". But through the efforts of the AMA and anti-obscenity crusaders and (ironically) feminists, abortion became illegal everywhere in the U.S. by 1900. Abortions went underground or out of the country. The key reversal of this legal situation came on January 22, 1973 when the Supreme Court in Roe vs. Wade made the following rulings.

" that no state may make laws regulating abortion during the first three months of pregnancy except to provide that they be done by licensed physicians.

" that laws regulating abortion between the third month and the time of viability are constitutional only in so far as they are aimed at safeguarding the health of mothers.

" that laws relating to the time from viability (6-6 1/2 months) until the end of the pregnancy may not prevent abortion if it is "to preserve the life or health of the mother".

" that the "health" of the mother includes "all factors -- physical, emotional, psychological, familial and the woman's age -- relevant to the well-being of the patient."

Then on July 1, 1976 the Court extended its original decision to affirm:
" that abortions may be performed on minor daughters without the knowledge or consent of their parents, and

" that women (whether married or unmarried) may obtain abortions without the knowledge or consent of the baby's father.

In effect, therefore, the law of our land today is that any abortion is legal in America until birth if the mother can give reason that the pregnancy or the child will be an excessive burden or stress on her well-being.

Goodyear Tire spent $35,000 to surgically attach fins on a pregnant loggerhead sea turtle, which had suffered a shark attack. A spokesman for the company commented, "We're doing this for motherhood."

A Florida man was arrested for stealing turtle eggs from the beach. 
a) He defended himself by saying that the eggs were not yet "life." 
b) No good, he was convicted and fined. 
c) To the law, a turtle egg is alive, but not an unborn baby!

And here are some of the outrageous fines recently levied by our courts:
a) $4,000 for killing cats.
b) $1,360 and 60 days in jail for torturing and killing rabbits.
c) $10,000 for killing a tree!
d) $95,000 for cutting down a tree, which held an eagle's nest. 
e) But no fines for killing a baby - even a partially born youngster.


Let me give you 9 reasons why I believe abortion is a sin.

1. GOD COMMANDED - "Thou shalt not kill 
" Ex. 20:13 (Heb. Rahaz = 43 times - violent personal killing - murder) " Not dealing with war or judicial executions (distinction - Numb. 35:19) " Romans 12:1-7. Look - vs. 4

2. THE DESTRUCTION of life is an assault on the work of God. 
" Psa. 139:13 " Job 31:13-15 " Mother donates egg, Father donates sperm, God forms, fashions, creates!

3. THE BAN on shedding innocent blood 
" Innocent blood found 20 times in Bible " The context is always CONDEMNING those who shed innocent blood " Psa. 106:34-40 " Jer. 22:3

4. THE PROTECTION of the weak 
" The stranger, the orphan, the widow, the weak are all under God's special care. " Ex. 22:21-24 (Abel's blood cried to God from the ground - Ex. 4:10) " Psa. 82:3-4 " Psa. 94:6, 23

5. GOD WANTS TO SEE US THROUGH difficulty, not avoid it 
" Rom. 8:20-28 " Many other Scriptures that show the benefit of enduring.

6. WE CAN NOT JUSTIFY by saying they go to heaven 
" Rom. 6:1 - shall we sin that grace may abound? " Rom. 3:8- Let us do evil, that good may come? " Then let's kill all 1-year-olds, or ALL saved for that matter

7. THE BIBLE COMMANDS US to rescue our neighbor 
" Pro. 24:11-12

8. JESUS REBUKED THOSE who spurned children 
" Luke 18:15-16 " Mark 9:36-37 " Matt. 18:1-6

9. IT IS GOD who gives & takes life 
" Job 1:18-21
