I. THE WARNING FROM JESUS

a. Jesus had just healed a man (possessed, blind, dumb)
b. The Jewish Scribes and Pharisees claimed that he did these by the power of Beelzebub the prince of devils.
c. Jesus explains that this accusation does not make sense, and that what he did, he did by the power of the Holy Spirit of God.
d. He then WARNS THEM that they are getting mighty close to a most serious sin!

II. THE VERY, VERY SERIOUS SIN

a. We are told that ALL sin and ALL blasphemies CAN be forgiven.

-Think of the worst sin – can be forgiven
-Think of the most disgusting – forgiven
-Think of the worst blasphemy - forgiven

b. Except one – blasphemy against the Holy Ghost
c. It will NOT be forgiven in this life… it will NOT be forgiven in the next life… it buys you a one-way, non-refundable ticket straight to Hell!

III. THE CONFUSION TODAY

a. There are many explanations as to what exactly this “unpardonable or unforgivable sin” really is.
b. I’m sure you have heard that suicide is the unpardonable sin. That is made up – no Scriptural support at all.
c. Some say that it is rejecting the conviction of the Holy Spirit for the final time. That does not jive with the context of the Scripture.

-Although – that is serious!

d. Some say that it is attributing the works of Jesus to Satan. This is very close… in fact; I believe this is why Jesus WARNED them… they were treading on thin ice; they were walking close to the edge; they were pushing the limits; they were close to the danger of eternal damnation.
e. I am really surprised at the confusion and all the contradictions surrounding this unpardonable sin!
f. There is no need for confusion – the Scriptures are plain and easy to understand.

IV. THE SCRIPTURAL EXPLANATION

a. Blasphemy:

-Profane speech – slander (dict)
-Hurtful utterance (dict)
-Evil speaking – railing (grk)
-Impious sayings (grk)
-Speaketh a word against (Matt. 12:32)
-Speaketh against (Matt. 12:32)

b. Very simply… anyone speaking a word against the Holy Spirit of God will NEVER be forgiven and at that moment obtains a one-way, non-refundable ticket straight to Hell fire and eternal damnation!
c. I believe there are 2 reasons that this is such a serious sin:

-A person that speaks against God or his Son Jesus may not fully know WHO they are speaking against or what they are doing. A person who speaks against the HS KNOWS what they are doing.
-Insulting the HS is serious because HE is the only one who can convict and lead you to repentance! He is the only one who can draw you to the Saviour!

d. Very few understand this, but the Rational Response Squad understands it perfectly!
