MARKS OF A MANLY MAN
1 Timothy 3:1-7


This passage of Scripture deals with the qualifications of a bishop {pastor}. 
If God holds these men to such high standards, it would be safe to assume that these standards could be applied to any man.


I - BLAMELESS {vs 2} - Not perfect, but strives for perfection and sins as little as possible

II - HUSBAND OF ONE WIFE {vs 2} - Works hard to keep his marriage together

III - VIGILANT {vs 2} - He is on the lookout for physical and spiritual trouble that could affect his family

IV - SOBER {vs 2} - Realizes that life is serious

V - GOOD BEHAVIOR {vs 2}

VI - GIVEN TO HOSPITALITY {vs 2} - Knows how to interact with other people

VII - APT TO TEACH {vs 2} - Trains his children in the way they should go

VIII - NOT GIVEN TO WINE {vs 3}

IX - NO STRIKER {vs 3} - A far better man can grab hold of his spirit and walk away from a physical confrontation

X - NOT GREEDY OF FILTHY LUCRE {vs 3} - Doesn't place money above all else

XI - PATIENT {vs 3}

XII - NOT A BRAWLER {vs 3} - In addition to avoiding physical confrontations, he doesn't abuse his family or others with words

XIII - NOT COVETOUS {vs 3}

XIV - RULES HIS HOUSE {vs 4} - He will have his home under control without physical and mental abuse

XV - NOT A NOVICE {vs 6} - Doesn't remain a "rookie" forever

XVI - HAS A GOOD REPORT OF OTHERS {vs 7}
