Scripture Reading: Mark 2:13-20
Text: Mark 2:14
1 - WHERE HE WAS {vs 14}
-Levi was at work
-Col 4:3
-I know we must use carefulness, but many times this is our only time and even our best time to plant the gospel seeds. (lunch & break time can be used effectively)
2 - WHEN THE CALL CAME {vs 14}
-A passing offer of salvation
-There is no guarantee that Jesus will pass by you again
-2 Cor 6:2; Heb 3:7, 4:7; Luke 19:41
3 - THE NATURE OF THIS CALL {vs 14}
-Follow me
-If you are not interested in following Jesus, you can't be saved
-It is absurd to think that one can be a follower of Jesus without following Jesus.
-Matt 16:24-26; Mark 10:17
4 - THE RESPONSE LEVI MADE {vs 14}
-He left all and followed the Lord Jesus {Luke 5:28}
-Heb 11:24-25 - Many choose the pleasures of sin over eternal life
-Matt 19:28-30 - You can't go wrong following the Lord
5 - THE CHANGE EVIDENCED IN LEVI'S LIFE {vs 15}
-Luke tells us that “Levi made him a great feast in his own house” {Luke 5:29}
-Levi had concern for the lost
-2 things: Jesus in the home & concern for the lost
-Rom 9:33; Luke 14:21-23
6 - THE GREAT QUESTION {vs 16}
-“How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners”
-Even though these hypocritical Pharisees meant this as a negative, condemning question (they are not concerned with lost souls), what a great question it is!
-Heb 2:6; Rom 5:10
-It is an awesome thing that God was mindful of sinful man
7 - THE STRAIGHT ANSWER {vs 17}
-“…I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
