FIVE REASONS THE COMMANDMENTS SHOULD STAY
Deuteronomy 4:1-14
The debate on whether the 5,280 pound monument to the 10 Commandments should stay on public display in the rotunda of the Alabama Judicial Building has not only divided believers from non-believers, but it has also divided believers from believers.
Some Christians feel very strongly that it should stay; other Christians feel very strongly that it should go.
Allow me to give you five biblical reasons that I believe the 10 Commandments should stay right where they were placed over two years ago when Chief Justice Roy Moore took office.
The 10 Commandments should stay because of:
I. THE VISIBILITY FACTOR
Deut. 6:1-9
Jos. 4:6-7
God has demanded that his word be "front & center".
God has even called for monuments
II. THE LANDMARK FACTOR
Pro. 22:28
Declaration of Independence
Virginia Charter (1606)
Mayflower Compact (1620)
Massachusetts Charter (1629)
Connecticut Charter (1662)
Rhode Island Charter (1663)
Delaware Charter (1701) [only Saviour, only Lord, Jesus Christ, Creator]
Most state constitutions (1776-1842)
"In God We Trust" (money)
"One Nation Under God" (pledge)
"In God Is Our Trust" (4th verse of National Anthem)
Several depictions of Moses & 10 Commandments in the US Supreme Court (1935)
"God save the United States and this honorable court" (crier - US Supreme Court)
Congress opens each day with prayer, etc
III. THE BLESSING FACTOR
Psa. 33:12
Psa. 112:1
IV. THE IGNORANCE FACTOR
Lev. 4:13-14
Hiding the commandments will not alleviate our guilt!
V. THE IMPORTANCE FACTOR
Acts 5:29
God's law is more important than man's law!
