EARNESTLY CONTEND FOR THE FAITH!

Jude 1:1-8

I - WE SEE JUDE’S EARNESTNESS – vs. 3

- “…gave all diligence to write unto you…”
-“…it was needful for me to write unto you…”
-“…and exhort you…” (admonish urgently)
-“…that ye should earnestly contend…”

II. WE SEE JUDE’S EXHORTATION – vs. 3

- “…earnestly contend for the faith that was once delivered unto the saints.”
- “…the faith…once delivered” or “the common salvation” was in trouble!
-It was in need of some defenders, contenders, someone who would fight for it, someone who would struggle to protect it!
-Contend - Cp. Neh. 13:25

III. WE SEE JUDE’S EXPLANATION – vs. 4

“the faith” is under attack by
-Sneaky men
-Condemned men
-Ungodly men
-“the faith” is being altered and denied
-Grace turned to lasciviousness (filthy) -Denying God & Jesus
-How could this be? How could men, sneaky as they may be, come into a Christian church and attack “the faith” or “the common salvation” to such an extent that they convinced people to live filthy and to deny God & Jesus? Then the answer jumped off the page at me…
-In vs. 4 we see something that we do not see anywhere else in Scripture…
-“Lord God” and “Lord Jesus Christ”
-Denying the LORDSHIP of God and His Son Jesus is easy to do! It is done everyday, and will be done thousands of times today by preachers and soul winners all across the religious world.
-Denying the LORDSHIP of God and His Son Jesus also leads to a life of lasciviousness!

IV. WE SEE JUDE’S EXAMPLES – vss. 5-8

**Let me remind you how that THE LORD…
-Saved physically from Egypt but destroyed as unbelievers. (5)
-“saved” yet destroyed
-Created in heaven, but chained in darkness until the great Day of Judgment. (6)
-“angels” yet chained ‘till judgment
-Religious cities, yet vile and wicked and suffered the vengeance of eternal fire (7)
-“righteous” yet devoured by hell fire
