A BLUEPRINT FOR PRAYER
Daniel 9

Introduction:
Daniel was a dedicated man of prayer. (Dan. 6:10) We can learn much from his prayer here.

I. Scriptures (READ THEM) 9:2
· These 2 are inseparable. If you don't read Scripture, you don't pray. (vice-versa)
· As a prophet - he was not above reading. As a prime minister - he was not too busy.
· This young man did not have his parents breathing down his neck. He read anyway!
· Joshua 1:8

II. Serious (GET THERE) 9:3
· Most are not serious about prayer. Daniel is. Fasting, sackcloth, ashes.
· Not only did he have "set" times and places of prayer - but also determination to reach God.
· "I set my face…" meaning he applied himself. Devoted.
· Fasting, sackcloth, and ashes show his seriousness/repentant heart.
· Cp. Daniel 10:2,3

III. Salutation (GREET HIM) 9:4
· Should always greet the Lord with praise and worship!
· Ps 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: ...

IV. Sin (DEAL WITH IT) 9:4,5 9,11
· We can never expect power/success in prayer until sin is dealt with.
· Not only had they (a) sinned (b) committed iniquity (c) done wickedly, but they had also (d) rebelled against the written word and the spoken word.
· Daniel recognizes the CURSE upon them because of their sin.

V. Separation (RECOGNIZE IT) 9:7-9
· It is good to recognize the vast difference and separation between us & God. This is humility.
· Especially when we harbor sin.
· Luke 5:8 and Job 40:4-6 and Matt. 8:8

VI. Supreme (ACKNOWLEDGE IT) 9:14-16
· Not only recognize how low we are, but how supreme He is!
· Ps 145:3 "Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised …"

VII. Supplication (MAKE IT) 9:16-19
· With all other steps completed - make our request.
· Ps. 20:1,2
· Not completely selfish (prayed for the whole)
· Spiritual

VIII. Success (EXPECT IT) 9:21-23
· Just knowing that heaven has heard is success!!
· Yes, No, or Wait
· Father Knows Best!
